Worth County Fire/Rescue, EMS, WCSO deputies and Georgia State Patrol responded to a crash incident Saturday afternoon around 3:45 P.M.

A Ford F150 pickup was headed north on Sledge Road towards Hwy 82 and a Freightliner bobtail semi was traveling south when the right front corner of the semi truck struck the front end of the pick-up, according to GSP Trooper Sgt. D. Harnage.

Worth County paramedics treated the 91-year old driver of the pickup, J.D. Gibbs, until Air Evac landed in a nearby field to transport him to Macon Medical Center. He was the only passenger in the F150.

The driver of the Freightliner, Jimmy L. Pitts of Omega, was apparently uninjured.  Georgia State Patrol and WCSO remained on scene until around 7 P.M. Investigations are still ongoing  according to the Trooper’s report.

At 8 P.M. Saturday GSP Sgt. Harnage stated reports indicate Mr. Gibbs is alert and responsive while in care at the Macon hospital.

UPDATE Sunday: GSP Trooper Sgt. Harnage reports driver Jimmy Pitts is charged with driving too fast for conditions.
