Worth DECA students place at Region; WCMS students were selected to Statewide Honor Choir and see who is celebrating birthdays today in Worth County; this and more below:
WCHS DECA Members Place at Region
Eight first-year DECA members along with their Advisor Mrs. Amanda Nees from Worth County High School attended Region Competition hosted by Mrs. Susan Fuller at Crisp County High School in Cordele, Georgia on January 24, 2013. DECA members across the state participated in Individual Events such as Accounting Applications, Apparel & Accessories Marketing, Hotel & Lodging Management, Human Resources Management, and many other marketing, management, food service, and hospitality events. Members also competed in Role Play Events such as Business Speech and Job Interview.
Worth County’s DECA members competed against Lee, Brooks, Tift, Crisp, Dougherty, and several other surrounding counties for the top places in the Region. Austin Berchtold placed 1st in Human Resources Management. Mandy Hogan competed in the Job Interview category receiving 1st place. Jessica Kirker placed 2nd in Restaurant and Food Service Management. All three students will move on to the State Career Development Conference where they will compete against all Region winners for the top places at State.
Several other members also competed at the Region Competition. Michael French and Raven Lawrence competed in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, Landon Dailey competed in Principles of Business Management & Administration, Drew Bryan competed in Hotel & Lodging Management, and Haley Blevins competed in Apparel & Accessories Marketing.
The DECA members are now preparing for the State Career Development Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia in hopes of reaching the next level of competition and advancing to the International Career Development Conference, which will be held in Anaheim, California. (Photo & info submitted)
Students Selected to Statewide Honor Choir
Six WCMS Chorus students were selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association Statewide Sixth Grade Honor Choir recently held at the UGA Conference Center in Tifton. The students selected to participate were Keshauna Adams, Trinity Archer, Courtney Hood, Abigail Thongbai, and Anna Claire Tipper. They were nominated by director, Lesli Holton. Their performance was directed by Darren Dailey from Jacksonville, Florida. Over 500 students from all over Georgia participated in this event. (Photo & info submitted)
