Relay Event & Luminaries Ceremony
On Friday, April 27th, 2012, Worth County will host its annual American Cancer Society “Relay for Life”. This event will be held to honor and remember those touched by cancer. This event will be held at Gervaise Lawhorne Park, “The Duck Pond”, with Opening Ceremonies beginning at 6 P.M. The Luminary ceremony will follow at about 9 P.M. All are welcome to participate in this heartwarming and moving event.
This is an opportunity to pay tribute to loved ones and friends, and help fight the disease that claims so many lives. Luminaries will be placed around the track “In Honor” or “In Memory” of all those touched by cancer. We invite you to be a part of this ceremony by purchasing a Luminary for a $5 donation. In addition to the Luminaries around the track, a special “Tribute Torch” may be purchased in the amount of $100 in honor or memory of your loved one touched by cancer. This year a “Memorial Sky Lantern” may also be purchased for $20. These sky lanterns will be lit on the backside of the duck pond while names are read aloud during the ceremony. If you would like to remember or honor a loved one in the ceremony, please contact any team member or Karen McDonald.
The drawing will be held the night of Relay (Apr. 27) – you do not have to be present to win.
