Worth Sports this week includes updates on Rams baseball, Track, and more. A list of fundraisers is also provided in order for individuals and/or businesses to take part in funding for our young athletes. If you have information for fundraising events for Worth County athletic programs, please send your information to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rams Varsity Baseball stands currently at 8 – 4 after Tuesday’s 13 – 3 win over Dougherty. The big win over the Trojans put Worth Rams at 2 – 0 in region as they prepare to face Crisp County Friday. The game in Cordele against the Cougars will challenge the Rams’ skills as Crisp is also 2 – 0 in region but also undefeated thus far in the season at 10 -0.
Rams are not to be underestimated by any means especially with seven productive seniors on this season’s roster. Last season Head Coach Will Smith’s roster included one senior, starter pitcher Will Peacock. Peacock signed with Southern Union in Alabama.
All seven seniors this season are repeat players from the Rams roster last season and four of those have played since the ’08-’09 season: Austin Newton, Ryan Hickox, Brandon Weaver and Corey Odom.
Rams Catcher and power hitter Brandon Weaver recently signed with Southern Union State Community College in Alabama. Today (Thursday) Rams Pitcher Corey Odom signed with Point University. The Skyhawks have won five South Region titles in their baseball history and went on to win the NCCAA II World Series in 2010.
Skyhawks’ Head Coach Jesse Dyar said today, “We’re very excited to have Corey become a part of what we’re doing here at Point University. Odom fits it in very well with what we’re trying to accomplish both on and off the baseball field.”
“Off the field we believe Corey will be a great addition to what the university as a whole looks for in a great young man. On the field we couldn’t be more happy with the idea of bringing in a matured left handed arm who still has tons of room to grow. Corey has yet to reach his ceiling athletically, a ceiling in which we believe can be a very tall one.”
Below are fundraisers organized by students and coaches in order to raise money for various athletic departments of Worth Schools. Please help support out Rams!
